Cancer patients in Washington have workplace protections under the ADA, FMLA, Washington Law Against Discrimination, and Washington Paid Family and Medical Leave. You are entitled to reasonable accommodations, job-protected leave, and protection from discrimination based on your diagnosis.

Insurance companies cannot deny coverage for medically necessary cancer treatment. The Affordable Care Act prohibits denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions. Under the Affordable Care Act and Washington State law, insurance must cover routine patient care costs during clinical trials. This includes doctor visits, lab tests, and hospital stays that would be covered outside a trial. The trial sponsor typically covers experimental treatment costs.
